Today we got up, had a delicious breakfast, and we travelled to REEF. We had a 2nd introduction to REEF and then we did some Florida Keys Ecology. After, we went to the mangroves at John PenneKamp national park to kayak and snorkel, Then we went and snorkeled the sea grass. We went back and had lunch and later we returned to REEF to do some fish ID. When we got home we all did some catching up on our journals in the RV. We had a lovely dinner of burgers and shortly after it was time for bed, early morning tomorrow!

Long story short, today was a long day! The day started out meeting at the Burlington airport at 4 am for our connecting flight to Philadelphia. After arriving in Philadelphia and basically walking the length of the airport to get to our next gate, we settled onto our Miami-bound flight. After arriving, we hopped into our rental cars and headed to Sunset Cove in Key Largo, which will be home for the next week. After settling in and splashing in the water for a bit, we headed to the Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) for a quick overview of what our trip will look like. We met the REEF team and received educational packets for collecting fish population data. We then headed back home for a yummy home cooked meal of gluten free pasta with veggie marinara sauce and some delicious garlic bread. After dinner, students quickly scattered back to their rooms for a good nights rest.

Our trip to Key Largo is coming up in the next few days and we have been preparing by learning how to identify fish species, snorkeling at number 10 pond and learning about the species we might encounter in Florida. I’m super excited to see so many different kinds of fish and coral while exploring the reefs and taking data. I’ve never done anything like this before and I can’t wait to see and learn as much as I can!
